Taking the Jeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. ...

on Fri Apr 07, 2017 1:27 am
For its first longish drive on Sat.

I'm gonna have a go at the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. 24 miles in under 12 hours. (We're aiming for 10 hours)

I've been doing a bit of walking and have also been eating vastly less crap since I changed offices in Feb. I've lost approx a stone in weight but I'm still far from fit.
Still, I'm gonna give it a go. I've walked that distance before..but not for years. ..

Also a nice run out for the jag at 5.30 on Sat morning!

I think I've done that walk many moons ago. Camping at settle in ribblesdale and starting finishing there. Blasted the 12 hours time was finished way before. I was fit but my friend I went with and my family dog were not so. They were exhausted by the end, hehehe.

Subject to no major breakdowns, surely the Jag can manage 24 miles in 12 hours ???

Bloody right! If I zoom around locally it's down at 18-19ish. 21ish average. I couldn't use this every day with those kind of figures but then I knew that anyway Smile

Hello. Did 2 of the 3 peaks. Got to the last one and decided against it, I wasnt up for another ascent. I still had to walk 8 miles back to car though so I still walked approx 22 miles, just not 3 peaks. Was a great day. My mates did the last peak and said I'd made the right decision as it fecked them up! They managed the 24 miles and 3 peaks in 11hrs 35.

It was a hot day and I'd packed way too much in my bag. Plus I'm not fit enough. I think I did as well as I could at the moment.  Aching all over now. Going to Whitby today for 4 days. Fish and chips here we come!

Hope you are all doing ok?

Well done on being wise and knowing your potential limit.

The 3 Peaks Yorkshire is quite more a demanding 25 mile than some realise. Which 2 did you do crickle? Pen-y-ghent is always my favourite but its a sod because despite it being the smallest you keep thinking youre at the summit and theres yet another bit. Theres mild climbing involved too.

Hi John.

We did Pen-y-ghent and Whernside.
Pen-y-ghent was a tough incline and a nice steady descent. Whernside was a much longer gradual ascent but a very steep descent, which did me in. I dare say I could have done Ingleborough too but time was getting on and I would have take ages, would have been dark before I got down.
Sad I didn't do all 3 but it was the right decision on the day.

The Jeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaag is now departed.

Rear axle went. Got £220 earlier and next week it will be cubed (after scavenging).

A sad end. Very nice car.

Crix, I was going to post this on the C4 post, but hey, you get 1st dibs on it...

It's getting another turbo, a spanking timing belt & water pump, coolant, oil & filters, new gear change cables (currently preventing 5th & reverse (removed the cable, connected reverse using the lever on the box and backed her out the garage) brake discs & pads a tyre and a damn good clean. Still, it's a bloody good car. 115 quid tax and 70mpg. Can't be bad for 1200 quid Wink

The wheel trims are in the car, so she'll look better later on...

Thank you for the offer Andoo but I still have the Megane. I do like those C4s though and the work you're doing on that one is great.

Yeah punt it in London and share the profit. Looks like zero rust or damage.

Shortest time I've had a car for is not a very short time.  No

French cars are great for not rusting. I've had manu and I don't think any of them have been rusty. Fords, however. ....

Only because they break down before they have time to rust!

Oooh - I feel guilty. As an owner of several French cars & vans I really feel bad about the above comment.....
