I think it'd a b road blaster and track day arse out special that you may find too slow and cheap/plasticky and won't be able to enjoy the handling in town.

Having said that, they are a proper neat little thing, you sit really low inside with a great driving positon and gearbox. I've sat in and moved around a BRZ at wor but still annoyingly not managed a drive in one yet.

Get yourself a Porsch Ceyene thingy and be done with it. Make sure it has the huge engine though, no point losing out on power.

Realistically given I can't justify more than about £20k.

I don't want anything that's likely to cause me issues either, I just haven't got the time to worry about it.

Shortlist style is typically as follows ...

Audi S3 / Golf R - thrills through speed and power
Merc E Class convertible - thrills through soft top
911 - just because ....

Although open to other suggestions ....

Oh, unless it's a 911 - I want a petrol auto ....

Audis, VWs and Mercs - all a bit dull aren't they?

It's a shame the F type is still so new. In a couple of years they will fall into this category for you. Cayman / Boxter are good contenders as you have said. The 370z would be interesting and mean that you and Spot could go on "gentlemen's weekends" together - driving by day and trouser jousting by night.....

Don't get a GT86 for all the reasons listed they're just not quick enough to be exciting. I wish they were because I'd probably buy one, I'm waiting for the TTS to drop sub £10k then I'll be going looking at them

bang for buck and reliability concerns chose me the 370....but doesn't Lgay need seats for the kids?

how about a S5 ragtop?, nice big V8, pose-ability in london (which is par for the course) and room for the kids

I would sell George if I could have an XF estate with lots of go.

Hugh, which one should I get?

The XFR-S - 5.0 V8 with supercharger would be the weapon of choice.

At the moment all roads seem to be leading to the Golf R / S3

Always wanted a S3 - and nearly bought one in preference to my 3.2 A3 - but the V6 was such a nicer engine, and cheaper to buy - win win ....

Only thing is the new S3's are almost too subtle these days ... time was the S3 was special .... these days you'd do well to spot one over the basic A3.

I think that a lot of the faster versions look tame because manufacturers are offering the lesser engined variety with the uprated bodykits. Think M kit on a 1 series with a sub-2 litre engine........

Aye - good point ..... but for example - the Old S3 always looked better than the S Line models - but now they all look the same.

There is no way you'd mistake an M2 or A45 AMG for a lesser model ... Audi does need to beef the S3 up a bit (IMO)

Aye - I can see that ...

However today we all went across town in the BMW - which is basically a lot of speeding up and slowing down (speed bumps, cameras, traffic lights, etc)

Anyway the point being that for my usage I want ....

4 seats
300bhp
Auto
Petrol
Nimble enough for town work

Open to other suggestions .....
