What is it with A3 owners these days?!

on Mon Apr 10, 2017 10:43 pm
This weekend I've driven to The Wirral and back, through North Wales / Shropshire.

The Jag behaved very nicely ensuring swift progress was made when required. I've noticed that Audi A3 Tdi drivers are an interesting bunch. Most are driven permanently on the red line - I don't think they have an accelerator - just an on/off button. Not a problem - easily overtaken when the situation arises.

Except for one on the A5. Approaching a roundabout with a dual carriageway on exit, I position myself ready to make an overtake (A3 Dti / TDi thing). He swings out in front of me, nothing on the inside lane for 1/2 mile. Why?!!! Then stays there giving it full throttle for the next 100 yards, clear lane still inside him..... his progress was slower than I was happy with.

So I move across and shot up the inside - a little naughty but no other cars were close. I looked across and shrugged at him as I went by. Odd...

I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday whilst out in the Zafira ... Audi A3 menaces on the road ...

Kinda made me want one again ... because the owners seemed to be having great fun - hehe

The 2.0 diesels are very slow though!

S3 is rather nearer the money!

Was over taken quite promptly (as usual) at the lights by a A3 E-tron, mincer...

S3 is the only A3 I'd buy ...

My mum has a new A3 convertible (the one with the boot) with a 2.0 TDI and DSG ....

I have driven it, and it's far from fast .... makes the 118i feel like quite a weapon !!

The M118i is a weapon!

I also managed to average 23.5mpg over 195 miles!

Sounds quite tame compared to most A3 drivers I come across in Bradford. Laughing Having said that, A3s are rare there compared to S3s and RS3s - all of which also seem to be driven at full throttle most of the time!!

The award for 'Choice of Car Driven by Lunatics' has to go to the Golf R in my experience, though.

....sooooo..... After YEARS of pointing this out, you are all experiencing what I see every day Razz

Aiden & I went on a run to Aberdeen via the mountains (Inversmell, Carrbridge, Tomintoul, Cockbridge, Alford, Westhill. Then we went to visit my sis & back home via Elgins Motor Museum.

Over the two days, we mostly wafted along at an average 60mph, with the odd overtake and sometimes 50-ish enjoying the views.

George behaved impeccably as you'd imagine.

Don't think I met any fools apart from one overtaking towards us, forcing me to brake hard and go on to the verge. But he would have slithered underneath George and I may have felt a slight blip as we rode over him Rolling Eyes

'Tis most pleasing. Coming off a roundabout you can see they're positioning to fly past. They don't. Once they've heard the V8 noise they tend not to try at the next one....

I'm a bit surprised that none of our more effeminate members (excuse the members pun) - have not commented on the famous winter weather report - ""the road is closed between""

Tool in Tom

If that's aimed at me it's missing 4 cylinders, 2 litres of displacement and a supercharger!
