Looks good. That's what I'd be going for (if I didn't need a bit more space!)

That said if power is the only motive you could of course join the 400 or even 500BHP club for the money!

I think you'll get bored with another 1 Series but it is the sensible option

So what else, Paul ??

Didn't buy that one today - felt too loose ... going to look at one tomorrow with just 12k miles ....

Have to say the one today felt fast and noisy ... but not as glorious (noise) as my old A3 3.2

Golf GTI or R ??

Get out driving the alternatives LK

Whenever I've owned the same car twice I've got bored with it sooner that's all I know

You've summed it up vs the A3 though, that BM will still be more refined than you want for "fun times"

After a lot of soul searching, I'm not selling the car just yet.

I called the buyers and apologised, and sent them compensation for time, petrol, etc.

Deep down I was left so deflated after driving the M135i - it might be faster than mine - but more fun? Don't actually think so.

My heart still says 911, so I'll need more time in the M118i, so I can save up .. M118i is all paid for, and at the moment I got £14,800 from just a few days on autotrader - so just need to save hard now.

Nope ....

Here's my issue with the M135i.

It's too noisy - but not in a good way.

We went to Legoland yesterday.

, and went in the M118i.

On the way home we were travelling down some lovely back roads at a fair old lick ... and the kids were asleep, and the Mrs didn't even realise. That and the fact I could work the car, which made it fun to me ... the M135i was arguably too fast, and too noisy whilst doing it

Maybe the S3/ Golf R is just that it more refined.

As you know I loved that E Class convertible (but would not buy the one I liked because it was a diesel) ... but maybe I rate refinement higher than I first thought.

Sooooo when I said TVR & a Smart car Laughing

No point throwing another £4K at a car if you're not happy with it

you should have gone through with the sale, it would have accumulated interest, instead its now accumulating depreciation, you of all people should know that.

the 135 is built for one thing...and refinement it aint!, neither is any small/big engined car - again, you should know this.

sounds like you need best of both, so go test drive an S5 (you said you loved the a5 when you had one for a bit) an E350 or similar, an XF something....and so on

Porsche is never going to be a family car, so just drop the idea

My A3 was fast and refined.

Basil, i'be removed it from the web for now.

The pressure isn't I need a car for work, otherwise I would have just pocketed the cash for a while ....

pocket it and get a banger for a bit, you'll just have to accept you're not part of the london set for a while.

just out of interest, where are you based in london, work/home - i'm there all the time, i wanna pop in and pretend to be interested in an £80m 1 bed flat

We're not central London, don't get too excited ...

I live and work in the Sutton / Cheam area ...

We could have a cheeky beer after work if you were ever around

Seriously? Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

Mind you, your constant mind changing does keep the forum going! Wink

I suspect the Golf R would be the same but with less character so you'll have to go exotic for the feel good factor!

Frustratingly, but known to us all, is that my dithering is always financially based ....

What with where I live, the way I get paid, and the fact I have 2 young kids and a wife that only works part time I have moments of screw-it, I can afford it .... followed by oh heck, the house needs x doing to it ....

Our childcare is near £800 a month

Oh I appreciate that - for I'm in the same boat, and a boat that I'm going to be in for a while! My wife works 2 days a week, nursery costs for my daughter (though that has just gone down a lot now with the 15hrs a week free), but now with another on the way I won't be changing car for a while as the estate will be useful for a bit longer! I would have otherwise probably downsized to an M135i... curses! Wink
