Slight setback - what would you choose?

on Wed May 03, 2017 2:11 pm
Ok...so....track day coming up this Saturday...was meant to be an Aventador drive...but someone has seeminly binned it....and it's probably not going to be available.

They offered me to re-book for another date...or still come down and be offered an 'equivalent' car.

However...in power terms at least....the 'Dor was top of the pile. So the other options aren't quite the same...

However...i'd still like to go down this weekend really and i have a choice of the following:

(6 laps in one car - will be over in a few minutes but hey)

MK2 Audi R8 V10

Ferrari 458 Italia

McLaren MP4-12C

Lambourghini Huracan

OR

Re-book to be sure to get the Aventador......

What would be your choice, and why?

I am a BIG fan of the R8...both MK1 and current. I would certainly not turn it down...but...i've never driven a Ferrari, nor a McLaren. The MP4-12C doesn't set my balls on fire...BUT it might be the 570S..which does.
The Huracan was actually what SWMBO booked me in for....and it wasn't available when i confirmed the booking...so i got upgraded to the Aventador....but it is again as the Aventador is in the workshop.

So..

choose....and reasons....thank you.

Of the choices above I'd go for the Ferrari as it's, well.. a Ferrari! Also the McLaren as it's supposedly a very finely-tuned driving machine.

If it's at Elvington then I'd recommend driving one of the Nissan GT-Rs they have (probably the fastest-accelerating cars they have anyway) as they're so well-balanced and easy to drive quickly. There's also a selection of 'novelty' cars to choose from that you can drive - such as Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds (Shelby Mustang GT500).

Whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll be a great day - I'm off back there in a few weeks myself! Smile

I've never driven a Ferrari and would like to do so, plus some friends of mine are up for going too, so seems like a good excuse to go back. Smile

The good thing is you can add/swap your car choices on the day if you wish (albeit at extra cost if you add/upgrade), so it's not set in stone and does give you some freedom of choice. Smile

Good. I am me...so i will not be paying a penny more than i haven't so far (it was a gift)...however....if there is a really good photo of me controlling a tail-slide in a 458...i could be tempted...

Ah, sorry to pee on your bonfire, but they mention in the safety briefing that if there's any sort of sliding/loss of control then the driving experience is terminated. Sad There is a van at the side of the track taking photos that you can buy though. Smile

McLaren MP4-12C

Buy British!

VFC

There could hardly be a more difficult mission for a new supercar company than setting out to beat Ferrari at its game, but that’s the task McLaren has set itself with the McLaren 12C, a natural competitor in terms of performance, price and mechanical layout to Ferrari’s universally admired 458 Italia.

And make no mistake, McLaren is a relatively new supercar company. It has had two previous forays into road cars, but the F1 of the early ’90s, and the spec and positioning of the more recent SLR was so heavily governed by Mercedes-Benz that it couldn’t really be called a pure McLaren.

Ferrari has much to be concerned about
According to its founder and chairman Ron Dennis, the company plans a three-tier model range: the £170,000 12C is first, the super-expensive P1 is second, and an “affordable" £120,000 model is around the corner.

Thank you for your comments so far chaps.
I'm leaning towards the 458 at the moment.
Ultimately the Aventador is the one....but...trying to find the next free weekend is not easy. We both work various saturday/Sundays. It could be several weeks before we could go again...and baby is due in July...and gift expires in August.....I'm thinking...I'd still like to go this weekend. Any of the above is dreamland for me....

Sounds like a mini meet !

Ferrari for me too. You know Ferrari is quite a popular Italian last name and means firer, someone who creates fire for making shoes for horses, so in fact it's a Smith.

Something like that anyway.
