Good luck, looks like a nice place. I once took a massive public transport tour (the last bit by bus) to Lymington, it'll be just down the road, it was a really nice place. The roads through the New Forest on the bus were really nice.

Just in Sandbanks.

BMW was amazing on the run down here ... fast enough to be exciting ... slow enough I could really work it !!

There is a fairly new Travel Lodge right in the centre of Christchurch just off the high street. They can be really shabby but as it isn't that old it probably isn't that bad!

I've seen you mention Sandbanks a few times - what's the obsession? It is just an area of expensive housing! Drive through, hop on the ferry and head over to Purbeck and do a coast walk - Lulworth/Durdle Door, Durlston or somewhere like that.

No obsession with here - I actually prefer the area the other side of the ferry

You'll hate it but the kids would like the amusements and play areas in Swanage

So where are you staying then?

Hengistbury Head is a nice local place for a stroll - walk from the car park and get the train back, or the ferry over from Mudeford Quay.

We're out and about in the New Forest today.

Staying in the Premier Inn Christchurch Highcliffe.

What I've noticed the last few days down in Dorset.

1. They love KFC - KFC's everywhere - including what has got to be the biggest KFC drive thru in the World.
2. The visitors love a fast Audi
3. The locals love a Jag
4. The standard of driving is quite poor - falling in to 2 camps ... a. Slow and dithery (normally the smaller cars with either older or younger drivers or b. Proper aggressive ... will change lanes to gain half a second, and will cut you up to gain a whole second. Normally an older Astra or Focus. Criticise London drivers if you like, but on the whole their not irratic or aggressive ...

London driving not erratic or aggressive?

What?

What?

What?

I have to remind myself I'm not in London when I'm back on the south coast barging between lanes etc

Oh - went to Sandbanks and got the ferry over to Swanage, and stopped in Poole on the way back to the hotel.

I do like it down here - very nice place to drive too - that's my only complaint with where I live - being a car guy, it's an aweful place to drive - that's why i'm always looking for a more exciting car - but it's not the car that's the problem.

Plenty of exciting places to drive here. But I'm not a fast driver... the road by the lake for example, I'm scared of hitting a bicycle, the mountains often there are farms and signs saying kids about. Probably the end of my life, if I hit one..

Motorways are good you can burn along them and some times some roads in the mountains you feel safe enough to floor it. But it's not really often.

I agree with your assessment of the driving round here!

Highcliffe is full of 80 and 90 year olds. The standard of driving is very poor and you are more than likely to be taken out by someone croaking it at the wheel.

The traffic is awful in Bournemouth and Poole most of the time which brings out the impatient idiots.

Don't understand the KFC thing - I don't know of that many! The one you refer to is the one next to the Ford garage?

Near the Sainsbury's near Highcliffe.

Yep, the idiots are all around Bournemouth ...

In London I don't see my BMW as anything special
- but it does seem to be getting the attention of the old Astra and Focus mob !!

If you went from Christchurch to Poole you might have gone down a road called Castle Lane East, which leads to the main dual carriageway through to Poole. Due to a combination of congestion and poor road layout (forcing you to change lanes at least twice while others are changing the other way, or other lanes that just end and no-one lets you in) it ends up being a road rage nightmare! It is my route to work.

Some of the road layouts down here are pretty weird ... and the satnav struggles from time to time to work out exactly what Road you are in ... thankfully I know the area a little bit to be able to guess most of it ..

Some numbers for you to chew - Crix ...

Still another 200 miles in the tank ... so not bad for the the type of car, and the fact I was driving fairly spiritedly !!

The car loved the open roads, and a chance to really build up some speed - the faster you drive it, the better it seems to get - which means in London the car is always at it's worse !!!!

All on super unleaded (Tesco) if it matters to your consideration.

Must say, not sure of it was the fuel - but car is running great at the moment ... just clocked over 11k miles, and feels all the better for a few more miles on it.
