Losing my virginity

on Sat Jun 03, 2017 10:16 am
I've been a petrolhead since I was 17 years old and got banned for 12 months on a provisional licence.

Never once have i ever changed the oil in a car.

I've done it helping others but never on my own.

Today this will change.

Paid someone last month to do the Focus and i'm convinced from the Dorises description and the colour of the oil he's not done it.

Details of why i failed later. My excuse yesterday was i couldn't find my oil filter tool.

Suns out, its lot likely to rain............

laters......

Good luck mate ...

I've done quite a lot of motorbike mechanics ... changing oil, coolants, etc ... and the basics in a car - spark plugs, air filters, etc ... but I've never done a car oil change ... it's just the whole getting underneath thing that's put me off, but I suspect it's quite easy.

Good luck.

Last time I helped someone do an oil change was on a mk3 escort...

Bon chance! Don't knock over the container of dirty oil like I did

Done

The oil filter removal thing (one with a chain on, the only one my local factors had) was pretty decent once i'd you-tubed how to use it.What helped was when i started to turn it the right effing way !!!

Sump plug was a bastard but after a few clouts with a lump hammer it budged. Halfords had two sump plug washers but couldn't tell me which one so i had to buy both and in the end neither looked right so new plug next time.

Crawling about underneath was deffo the worst bit as you say LK

I've just saved meself a few quid and im happy its been done right.

NOW I'm going to ring the twat that charged me £140 last month to service it I queried with him at the time about whether the oil had been changed but he confirmed it had and now i KNOW it hasn't How the oil can get in that state and an oil filter can get that rusty in 3 weeks i'll never know, i've kept it and im gonna feed him it.

I've investigated how to do an oil change and I think it's possible to buy a little pump that will suck the oil out of the place where you have the oil stick. I would get one of them and try and do it. Safer.. Not as good I guess as you probably don't get all of it out.
