George Lost Air Suspension....

on Thu Jun 15, 2017 11:15 pm
Driving home, got Blackpool Illuminations and she settled down to lowest setting. Damn! Air compressor deid Mad

So, in order to get her back on an even keep while I await the replacement parts, I did the bodge.

As you will see, I unplugged each airbag pipe, inserted Tee piece, pipework and a one way valve, all quick release and inflated them one at a time with my tyre inflator.

That'll get her going until the parts arrive......

I'm back  Cool

Hell no! That's just temporary. The compressor kit parts should be in tomorrow morning and she should be fixed within an hour.

Not bad for a decrepit fat mess with one good arm and the other like a feckin broken bingo wing.

I intend to make a bracket so I can leave the parts in place and just swap over with a flick of a switch.

Quite pleased with myself all the same Embarassed

Imagine though, aircon Very Happy

She's still going which is a good thing as it means the pump was shot but the valves are currently ok (bit of a mess to strip & rebuild all of them).

Pump running, but can't get the EAS system re-booted until Hamish is back from his holiday. Bugger! Sad

Found out why George's air pump shat itself!

Exhaust leak Embarassed

It was s blowing through a small hole on top of one of the back pipes and melted the airline going to the air storage tank!

Anyway, now the back box is totally broken as I may have been a little heavy handed... No matter, it was done anyway. So, all new pump components, all new valve block seals and all because of a feckin exhaust leak! Almost 200 squids for a couple of back boxes Rolling Eyes

Still, it confirms my suspicion of an exhaust leak (I couldn't get under because of my fecked arm/shoulder) causing a misfire and now a job that may have happened in winter, happened in summer and is all done so in a way, it's all good Razz

While I'm at it, here's how I replaced all the "O" rings in George's EAS valve block... Range Rover air suspension is a piece of pish Wink

Remove valve block and undo, take out old "O" rings & replace with new ones. Add some Vaseline to not only hold new ones in place, but prevents nippage.

This one's for LK when a Porsche appears Very Happy

So, the kit cost 20 quid and I did the build myself. Getting LR to do that would have required amputation of many limbs. I saved myself a packet Cool

Well the good news is George is back on an even keel again. Seems my repair is working. Need two new back boxes.... Local fast fit centre around 800 quid!!! Shocked If I bought them myself from parts shop, 210 + vat. But got in touch with my mate and got his trade discount, so 120 quid & be here Monday so get them on and down for a test.

Thank feck for that Rolling Eyes

Yes, I am member of LandyZone and they were fairly pleased with it so using it as a sticky in their technical section.

I removed the remains of the back boxes yesterday and have to say, I am paying the price of fitting the airline on Saturday (not normally a difficult job at all) and the exhaust removal yesterday.

I am in feckin bits with the pain in my shoulder cramping my neck, down my arm to my elbow. It's that bad I have no grip in my left hand. Still not an emergency.....

Wife is worried that what started out as a torn muscle is spreading around. She want's me to get a biopsy! Who gets arm cancer ffs? Rolling Eyes

Still, if they'd listened to me months ago & done an MRI instead of trying to save a few quid, I could be back working right now and investing in the NHS by paying tax & NI Mad

.....not to mention being pain free and not bored out of my head drunken

Be like George. George sits happy and tall. Jet 2 are not happy so they sit very lower than a worms belly. Jet tae fuuck...

I recall a lovely sand beige (or whatever the colour would have been called) Range Rover Vogue owned by a (farmer wife) friend of my mam.

I remember she visited in it, brand new. It was J reg so that would have been 91/92 ish so i would have been 8 or 9.

I asked for a ride out in it and it was wonderful, floaty, high up position, so smooth and luxurious, warbly V8. Our own car at the time by way of comparison was an 'already rusting' E reg Montego 1.6 'L' which was at best very ordinary (when it wasn't broken down outside my school).

So yeah....Range Rovers....always thought they were cool. They are very blingy now though, maybe too much. But i think i'd have one in my multi-garage if i was very wealthy.

A mate of mine's dad at one stage had 3 range rovers (1980s ones) and a disco! (and a freelander!) I dont think they had all of them at the same time...but they definitely had 3 range rovers at the same time, i think one was an old 3.5 and the other two were 3.9s. Two of them weren't good runners so they ended up jut swapping parts around so that one of them was roadworthy at all times.
