Basil ... whistle for it

on Tue Sep 26, 2017 10:28 am
Basil,

I was curious ... (and thankfully this time my bottom doesn't hurt).

You've had the 1.8T Audi lump in the TT, and the 1.6 French BMW unit.

Now, I am finding they are chalk and cheese in terms of delivery and noise.

The 1.8T actually feels more urgent, and gives off zero noise.

The 1.6T unit loves to rev more, and makes lots of turbo noise ..

Did you find this ??

Hand on heart, the 1.6T BMW engine is making so much turbo noise, its starting to concern me a little.

Yeah, I have to say - the engine in the A3, is better than that in the BMW - and reminds me of why I want the BMW gone !!

The newer 1.8tfsi in the A3 is a different engine to the old 1.8 20vt as used in the TT, mk1 S3 etc, no?

I don't think the current 1.6 turbo engines in the bms are PSA units? Aren't they their own? I know they've used PSA units before though on previous models and mainly MINI etc.
