2008 Smart ForTwo Brabus

on Wed Jan 17, 2018 9:47 pm
Right, we've had the Brabus for 2 weeks, so thought I'd write a review....

Smart ForTwo Brabus -

Exterior - much like the standard ForTwo, but with the fab Brabus alloys and slightly OTT body styling. It looks like a cartoon version of the Smart! Finished in Silver it certainly compliments the XFR on the drive. The headlights are blackened (factory), or at least the surrounds are. The rear is much nicer too with a twin pot centre exhaust. The paintwork is amazing; no swirls at all and not a mark on the wheels. It was previously owned by a Smart fanatic and has been garaged since new (just the 1 owner).

Interior - Leather (heated) seats in black are supportive - drove back from Bedford the other week (just the 1 stop) and all was comfy. The stereo has a 6 CD stack thingy and a large wooooofter thing under the seat - much louder than the previous Smart. The dash has Brabus logos on the dials, all simply laid out and easy to rear. On the dash top there are 2 pods - revs and the clock. The hand break is Brabus branded and is made from aluminium; a really nice touch, if a little cold in the morning! The steering wheel is much chunkier and better padded really feeling like a go kart one. The gear lever has a nice big knob (Brabus again!) and can be stuck in auto or push forward / pull back mode. The best thing is the paddle gear shift - I thought this would be gimmicky, but it's brilliant and much smoother than the other two methods. They are just about as responsive as the XFR (jut with less "go"!).

The car is a 2008 model - 1L Turbo - 98bhp (19700 miles on the clock). The best thing about it is just how much FUN it is to drive. The diesel Smart was very good and made you smile. This makes you grin from ear to ear!! I now have a big problem - which car to drive to work in! On the road the ride is firm, the engine is revvy and the car is reasonably quick for a city car - 0-60 in just under 10 seconds, and a great mid range surge (ok not as much as the Jag!) gets you up to speed nicely. On the motorway it feels quite well planted for a high very short wheelbase car. The power steering is very good too.

So, all in all a fantastic car. New they're not cheap at all. Considering I was looking at a slightly more expensive, higher mileage, one at a large chain this came up at just the right time - a real belter!
