MPG results

on Mon Feb 12, 2018 3:24 pm
Drove approx 450 miles in the Crickasso over the weekend.

The journey was down to Warwickshire on the A1, M18 and M1 etc.

We stayed at my uncles house in Stratford. It's a 6 bedroom 3 storey house. Marvellous room with en-suite! Was like luxury to us mere Northerners!

Journey down was taken at both 70mph and then 75mph, with cruise control on all the time where possible. I can rely on the computer as it's only ever 1mpg up or down on my workings.

70mph cruise displayed 47mpg.

75mph cruise displayed 44.8mpg.

The way down was in heavy rain and winds and involved a lot of lights and heater usage.

The way back yesterday was in mainly better conditions and taken more steadily.

60mph cruise displayed 64.1mpg at one point, down to 62.7 when we got home.

So 60mph is quite a big difference to 75mph.

The Crickasso however performed well. It's reasonably smooth and quiet on the motorway. The speed sensitive intermittent wipers are probably a good balance. Sometimes i feel they operate too much but not excessively so.

The Auris 1.4 D4D would display 60mpg at 60mph.

The record for one of our cars is a real 68.8mpg at a long 60mph in the 107.

Although that was beaten many years ago by a Yaris D4D i drove at work which displayed 75mpg at 60-70mph. But that wasn't my car...and i dont know how accurate the computer was.

Thank you.

Regards,

MOM

I've got the instantaneous readout in Litres per 100 km's. I can get it to suck gas at a maximum of 15 litres per hundred km's in 5th. That's as much as it can use (power it has). Which is 19 miles to gallon. I don't think the mileage is much worse than the Aglia so it's really not bad.

Sitting at 60 did take some time..but like....it was quieter and smoother and stuff. I made the odd overtake of lorries etc. But yes, 90% of things were overtaking me. 75mph seemed to be the kinda speed of other cars (apart from the roadworks sections)

Mogs.....guess what...the Impreza is back on sale here! We've sold.........................................................none.

It's a new model. The XV which is a kinda jacked up version has sold a couple, it's a bit more desirable i guess. But £25k! (and thats for the 1.6 auto!)

We've sold .................... none. Not surprised..

What about the front wind shield warranty repair from Subaru. Reading USA posts those heated ones are weak where the element is and that's where it is kaput. I go to the garage tomorrow and try and ask.

Hee hee, I get 14.4mpg on LPG and around 18mpg on petrol. However, that improves to 22mpg when towing Shocked

I mean, how does that even work? The car is already 2.2 tonnes on it's own, but if it's towing a max legal weight of 3.5 tonnes, how on earth can it get better on fuel?? Mad

I recall towing the caravan, which weighs about 1.1 tonne laden and the fuel consumption was 20mpg overall which threw me. However, looking at various others with the same vehicle, this is normal to use less fuel when towing.

Typical, Land Rover/Range Rover always manage to throw a curve ball Rolling Eyes

I dont know how that works. I would have thought pulling the extra weight would only harm the mpg. UNLESS perhaps that somehow the outfit together is more aerodynamic than the car on it's own? But i can't see that.

My Jeeeeaaag wasn''t good on fuel. 17mpg on my commute. Luckily it's only 6 miles ish. I think even on a 70mph ruise it woiuld maybe go to high 20's. it was very difficult to ever see a number starting with 3. But that wasn't the point. It was a lovely wafter and was pretty quick when asked.

The Vectra's currently showing an average of 45.8mpg. Hopefully it'll gradually get nearer 50.

The 3.0TDI A6 got 47.7mpg at its peak, the Laguna 1.5dCi would get 49/50mpg and the S80 D5 would get 48/49mpg (all according to the onboard computers) - very little difference for such a wide range of engine sizes. The E220CDI did once claim to be doing 67.7mpg - couldn't verify it, but surely the Germans wouldn't lie to us about diesel-related stats and figures...? :p

I'm currently averaging 20 mpg - bit of a drop with the colder weather perhaps? About 26 on the motorway.

Roll on the Spring when I can get up to 6000 rpm again without going through a hedge.....

Crizzle, I have nae idea man pet Embarassed Maybe it's because the autobox stays in gear longer or doesn't rev up to 5k on flat out away from the lights before the Corsa type gettaway (except I do when towing the caravan Laughing ).

There is an overdrive that drops the revs down by 500rpm when steady at speed above 50 so maybe it's that, I can't say. But when towing the caravan I still had that stupid little fuel tank that held 30 quids worth of petrol. I could squeeze 100 to 110 miles out of it on a normal day. We hitched the caravan, I filled a Gerry Can with 4 gallons and off we went. I managed 120 miles all in and the light was on so still a few litres left. Do not understand it, not even a little bit Mad

Take it easy Huge! With all that Huge power and torque!

Yes FF, some good figures there. The Merc does sound high but probably not impossible in very favourable conditions....

Good results from the big engined A6 and S80s.

When you pull a caravan you do not go in to reverse.

Reversing will chew petrol while putting negative miles on the clock, giving you a lower over all figure for miles per gallon.

A wildly spurious claim, Mogs!

With want of more eloquent phrasing....you'd have to do a farking lot of reversing!

MPG is not the Focus's strong point...

(Recent milestone). Mixed driving with a lot of urban/traffic
