Interior trim.

on Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:59 pm
So which do people prefer? The car has the Aluminium look trim fitted but I have just bought Light birch wood look trim to replace it.
I think the silver stuff looks rubbish.

I've also ordered a new head unit to replace the crap factory effort.

Hmmm. Really not sure. It's a tricky one. Wood effect can look good but it's a tricky one to get right.

Bright red and birch - brave !!!!

Personally I would much prefer the silver, or would have pulled out the silver and painted it black or red - i’m not a ‘wood in car’ sort of person.

I agree, birch and red is brave but you can't see the red when you're in the car and IMHO it looks brilluant contrasting with the black leather. The silver just looks like I've got large pieces of 1990s japanese hifi in my car.

Not sure - if the birch had a grey tint to it then that would be better.

As LK says very few manufacturers get the wood content right in their cars. My Vauxhall Vectra had horrendous "wood effect" plastic. The trim in my Rover 214 looked ok. In the Jag I have straight grained oak with a grey tint - looks great.

Another picture comparing the two. IMHO the birch looks great but I was interested to see what other people thought. Either way it's going in.

I'm trying to remember what inserts mine 2002 320i had. They were metallic looking...but not like your silver one. I think they had a slightly darker shade to them?

I liked the interior of mine, good and solid build. Mine didn't have leather though - the poverty!!!!

The wood does look BMWish, not my taste I’d take the silver

I’ve never considered replacing trim in any of the cars, too lazy probably

Me neither until now. However I really don't like the silver stuff. Mind you it looks better with black leather than either beige or grey leather.
Large swathes of silver plasic seems to be popular these days. The Focus I drove was full of it. Nasty.

Nice red Z4 3.0 in the workshop today. It looks in really good condition. I think it's a 04 plate with approx 35k on the clock. The thing im not sure about is the cream/tan interior. I dont think it goes with the red that well.

Still....i maintain....Z4s are great......

Wood? What is it, a 1970s Rover? Noooooo!

Well, each to their own but it's not for me, except in the case of period classics!

The wood isn't in yet so it can't be ripped out.
My last two BMWs had wood trim, and they were better for it.

I'll leave you guys to your shite silver plastic lol.

Ok, cheap silver plastic isn't amazing. I'd probably go for something like a brushed aluminium or piano black trim if either of those are available

Would an indicator stalk not be a better investment? Wink

As for the trim... I quite like both!
