*snore* What?

on Wed Apr 04, 2018 3:11 pm
The drive back from Chester Zoo yesterday should have taken 3 hours.

It took 5.

Going was slooooooowwwww. With approx 40 miles being done in the first 1.5 hours.

Then we gathered a bit more pace...but not much. Then we started seeing signs saying the M1 was closed at the junction we would be getting on.

A couple of signs indicated other routes to take....but i mistakenly thought there would be a diversion in place....so i followed some diversion signs....which took us into Leeds City Centre. Right in the middle. think it was for a different diversion. The sat nav was trying it's best to re-route but it took us back onto the M62 just at the point the closure was at...so we had to divert again.

The straw that broke the camels back was when we reached a junction. The sat nav said 'take the M62'. Both directions at this junction said 'M62'! Which one was it? SWMBO was no help, now fully in grump mode...so i chose a direction. Back to Leeds centre. ARRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Combined with me and SWMBO arguing and the kids whinging in the back....the atmosphere was .....'frosty'.

Anyway....after much arguments and wrong turns...we got back onto a proper road and joined the M1 further up...and it was clear.

So North we went.. Soon....we saw signs that the A1 was closed for 3 junctions! FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Luckily the closure was only just starting....so we kinda nipped through just before it actually closed - but in a contraflow thing...so the speed was back down to 50mph.

And that remained for much of the remainder......

Pros: 72mph on the sweeping M62 and M1 in the dark felt pretty good in the dark. Mainly only lorries so we were overtaking them all.
The Crickasso is a good cruiser, fairly smooth and quiet.
Cruise control - love it. Used it wherever possible.
56.4mpg showing at end of journey, no doubt thanks to the lower average speed.
Zoo was good but we still didn't see around the whole place, despite a early start with a stopover the night before.
The Premier Inn at Runcorn was decent enough, Big family room, quiet enough, nice staff.
Breakfast at the Beefeater next door was nice. Could have actually spent a lot of time having a nice breakfast (and plenty of it) but we had to get moving.

Cons - knackered.
Left arm aching.
Another tank of fuel used.

That's one big kick arse zoo if you couldn't see it all in one day.

One of my favourite things to do is go and see the bears in Bern.

Other than that I like to see the royals on the web, some kind of different animals they are too. Razz

Aww... had I known you were in Leeds we could've gone for a coffee, lol. Was the 'M62 in both directions' bit just past Leeds Audi by any chance?

The M1/M62/M621/A64 have been a bloody nightmare - serious delays on each so far this week. Thought the roads might be a bit better with the kids being off school!!

We traveled up the M62 on that damn bus. It was covered in road works at stupid o'clock.

So you had a shit journey too. At least you had heat and could stop to stretch your legs... But still, a shit day when it all goes tits up.

Frosty is good, I get sub zero Laughing

Ahh, no that's not quite how I meant it. I said you had a shit journey too. What I meant was, "you" were in control of your vehicle and could stop when you wanted... Sorry, not detracting from the shitness of your day Embarassed
