Re: Stick or Shift.....

Nice looking car ....

I’m probably done with buying cars for a while ....

Always seem to come with hidden surprises - hence the last person is selling - and my next car will be main dealer, or lease.

The 3 series is running great - but warning light on Friday - and garage tells me it’s ‘low fuel pressure’

So, it’s either the high pressure fuel pump (changed at BMW 18 months ago, so should be still under warranty), or a dodgy injector, or something as simple as a coil or plug ... garage is checking tomorrow .... but either way - i’ve got the joys of trying to get it fixed .... buying privately is a proper lottery, and any money saved is probably going to be spent on fixing it up - mind, at least privately you can et some idea of who owned it before you, and how it was likely treated.

But what's this about bonnet and bumper respray? 1500 oFF also seems very generous from a dealer?  Surely that wipes any margin out?

I went in not talking about ticket price. I respectfully pointed out that the baseline values (based on various sources - WBAC.com What Car etc etc) are about £2500 apart. I said I don't begrudge him his margin (!) and added £2500 (margin + VAT element), and offered him mine plus £5k. He said mine +£6k. I excused myself to go for a wee, returned and he met me half way.

It's got 3yrs less miles, 9 months newer, has perfect windscreen and leather topped dash, doesn't need new rear pads and discs, no paintwork to fix and no rear end noises. Also serviced 1500 miles ago. Mine is 2k from its next one.

So all in all it looks like the right choice. Also there's a gentleman's warranty (like I had with my Saab) - looking at his reviews I think it's a safer bet than the trader I bought from last year.

Looks nice ... £5.5k though .... ouch ... that must be a fair percentage more than your current car.

I can see why though.

You’ll have to come and try the 330i - what i’m not a huge techie, its so nice having all the gadgets, and i’m loving the auto box - unless it’s a proper sports car - for road use, can’t see me buying a manual again.

Sounds like the 330i might have an issue though LK?
Fuel pumps, injectors etc. Quite well documented problems on these cars. Work colleague had a 325i ( basically the same engine) and he moved it in when it started to have similar issues. Hopefully yours will be easily sorted.

Sounds like he's done a deal LK.

Yep - seems to have an intermittent issue alright - driving fine, and no warning light now -

Paid about £2k less than dealer price - so probably just swallow it, and then sell it !!!

Just joking - swallow it, and enjoy it ....

As I said to the salesman, don't care what he offers me - it's the differential that gets the deal.

So, on one hand they offered my £0.00 for mine, and I offered £5500 for theirs. Another way would be I sold mine to them for £100000 and offered £105500 for theirs.

On the invoice it says £11k/£16500 - he started at mine at £10k and full screen price for his.

Selling privately (and they are tricky to sell), I might have got £12k. Ok it's a grand, but I wouldn't have been able to "bridge" the deal.

I would indeed like to try the 330i M/AMG Sport Vanden Plas.

If you want to, there's still time. Deposit paid, but I'm sure they would honour my offer!

£11k is a bit too risky for me ... sounds like a good deal.

Out of interest what was the WBAC price - £8k ??

Not done a WBAC recently, but WhatCar had the list at £9600.
