Subaru Outback driven

on Tue May 08, 2018 5:15 pm
Big, comfy, smooth.Rather dull petrol engine with neither great 'go' or super smoothness.

Quiet enough in the background tho in normal pootling about.

Smooth auto, bahaves quite well.

Smart interior. Lots of tech. Again, i liked the radar guided cruise thingy that keeps the distance to the car in front...and can follow the car in front to a standstill, around a roundabout and up to whatever speed. Clever stuff.....it would be easy to kinda...drift off....it's not foolproof...but clever.

Feels like a quality product though...and is big and large in the cabin and boot.

Hehe one day you will buy a Subaru and complain like me. Like my ex colleague in Greece. But we don't sell. Well you know I don't - it's only the 2nd ever car I've bought.

It was a great morning this morning. I was up at five left the flat at six. Took the countryside way. Someone was on a mountain col I have to go over staring at the morning sun. So I did a bit of that while driving didn't effect me too bad, no one else to see me driving on the wrong side etc..

I don't think I even know what an Outback looks like. Non Wrx/Sti/Turbo Subarus have always seemed a little bland performance wise.

Subaru seem to be out of tune with UK tastes these days and are mining a limited niche of loyal rural customers. The have some cars that could be interesting were it not for the limited engine and transmission options - the Levorg for example looks potentially great to me but not with the sole weak 1.6 CVT option they offer it in!

Agreed. The Levorg is actually pretty good looking IMO but yeah is totally hamstrung by the lack of choice.
We have Mitsubishi and Subaru and both need a serious injection of something! They are nice cars when looked at in isolation...but both brands need to be more in tune, as you say.

Mitsubishi are not such a good car company as Subaru in my opinion. Subaru have a higher quality and better safety record. Mitsubishi trucks for a while had wheels flying off and killing people.

Subaru are definitely building cars for the snow belt in North America and not for anywhere else. They just try and flog their cars everywhere, but are not very successful at it. They had a good run in Switzerland before Skoda and i think Fiat came out with cheaper 4x4 cars and killed off Subaru here too.

Even the Impreza now only comes in Auto. Big mistake Subaru! - @Donald

Photod one of the Levorgs this afternoon, it's actually a really nice car. Smart inside and out, feeds good quality...spacious interior and boot but it's still a nice smallish size (probs 3 series tourer size). Drives nice. It's just a bit of of alternative choice really. They shudda just done it with the 2.0D and a manual option. Surely would have sold a few.
At this point I was supposed to put some of my excellent photos on but I've realised ive deleted them off my phone at work.

The Subaru Levorg is a mid-size car manufactured since 2014 by Subaru. According to the company, the name Levorg is a portmanteau of three words, LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG The Levorg shares its platform with the Impreza, Legacy and WRX.

Subaru Grovel to sell the Levorg, it's the only way to get them out the door. Very Happy

I like the idea of having a Subaru. The engines just don't do it for me though. They're either too small and underpowered or too thirsty compared to their counterparts.

The interior on some is a bit scratchy plastic too.

I'd love a BRZ. They get a bit of stick for being too slow etc..and maybe they are (not to me, they're plenty fast enough but then...i haven't exactly had a powerhouse car history) - but the thing about them in...they are a proper low down sporty drive...yet still quite comfy and easy to drive day to day. Tremendous seat of the pants feel to the drive.

If the rear seats were just that bit bigger - I'd have given the BRZ a shot.
