2014 64 Renault Clio 1.5Dci Dynamique S 5dr

Looks very nice IMO. Outside.

Less good inside. It's rather cheap feeling and looking.

On first glance this Clio would appear to be very different to the previous one...it is bigger and looks different inside and out....but look a little closer...and a lot of the switchgear is the same....and drive it...and again...it feels very similar indeed.
In many ways it feels like the older car wrapped in a new bigger body.

The big and wide wheels look great...but do affect the drive. Not in the ride, which is surprisingly good...but in terms of tramlining and tyre noise. As usual with these things...I think a smaller wheel/taller tyre combo will only improve the drive. The ride though wasn't bad at all, damping good and it was by no means a harsh ride.
Gearchange - typical thing applying to lots of current French cars - easy to use bit unsatisfying.
Steering...again like many cars...very electrical feeling. Not a great amount of feel but not the worst I've used.

The engine - this is 90PS and I think 169lb ft? So similar to the Picasso. It's a lighter car...so it feels a touch more brisk...but only a touch. Not enough to be impressive.
The engine is reasonably refined inside..but outside its quite a cattery thing. More so than the PSA 1.6.
But, as with the Cactus etc...diesel just isn't as good or fun to drive. Yes it's easy and punchy and makes good progress (and is economical, this car is displaying a long term average of 58.1mpg with quite a bit of town use)...but it simply just isn't sweet to use.
I drove another version of this Clio with the 0.9tce petrol engine...and it was a sweet and nippyish thing.

So...to summarise..like lots of French cars...Looks good..but somewhat lacking substance.

Great review.

The wheels do look really good. I wonder the percentage of women to men who buy this car.

Renault female engineer, it would look great with these wheel.
Renault male engineer, it will tramline, run rough and make noise.
Renault male engineer, ok you win - men won't want to buy it anyway.

Seen one in gold or a orange colour depending on the light I think, around here and certainly turns my head. Female driver. Razz

Drove a couple of them myself on occasions when the Laguna was in for work. Definitely get the style over substance sentiment.

One was a diesel which was.. fine. The other was a 1.2 (IIRC) petrol - gutless but was quite good fun to thrash around in.

It does look good.
Not sure about your comments Mogs wrt Male/Female engineers. Given some of the discussions on here about wheel size etc and the car park at work I'd suggest that most big wherl obsession comes from men.

I'd agree with Teeps but I know what Mogs is getting at.

The joke doesn't work that well with the women getting all technical and the man saying "I like big wheels love".
