Not an outback

on Mon May 14, 2018 3:10 pm
So as not to digress from the merits of outbacks

I was looking at S2000 & VX220’s again at the weekend but got wondering about the GT86 and BRZ. This started after looking at some upgrade kits for the 2.2 VX adding a big supercharger...

Anyway for $3k you can get the parts to upgrade the BRZ / GT86 power to a level it should have been to begin with

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58514

Not sure about the engine noise in the videos though...

Some would argue that no more power was needed.

Urm ... I'd rather go down the 6 cylinder route, rather than forced induction, personally *smug face*

I work with a lad who has a GT86. Yes you can get the engine bits but what about other stuff. Clutch, brakes, suspension etc.
By all accounts it's not a car that needs lots of power to be fun.

I still think the car deserves more power than it has and yes that would require evaluating the grip it then has

For what I want it might fit the bill as the prices are coming down more and more

would anyone buy a car second hand thats been fettled with to the extent of a bolt-on turbo?

might be fun for the current owner, but i've no doubt it devalues it

They will and some will be prepared to pay a premium for such a car. However you massively reduce the size of the market place for the car.
What most sellers would do is remove the turbo kit and sell it separately. A 2nd hand turbo kit will be quite easy to sell if you advertise it on an enthusiasts forum.

i'd only think about the overly worn/stressed parts designed for 200hp, not 300 and walk away sharpish - same for any car thats been advertised as being 'chipped'

And the majority of used car buyers think like you. However with certain cars where a buyer may want to do the modification themselves anyway it can be a real selling point. I'd imagine that a significant minority of GT86 owners will go down the forced induction route.
Montune equiped Fords command higher values as do Prodrive kitted Subarus. A remapped 320d will not be worth more money but a Focus RS with a Montune power upgrade will be. All depends on the car and the tuner.

Thought it was all about the electric innit

Anyway checkout the reviews of GT86 TRD vs Superchargef GT86 on YouTube. Mostly positive from what I’ve seen, including users on the club forum

Facelifted BRZ. Theyve changed the wheels and a few bits here and there. I think it looks great mind.

I thought we got it for stock (sometimes you have to order at least one of every vehicle into stock for like...compliance reasons and stuff..but this is a customer order, so i wont be able to have a play, sorry!

Lad I know dropped his Focus ST into Ford For a Service. Came back to collect it and heard a car being driven hard. 2 minutes later he was almost run over by one of the salesmen driving his car quite quickly back into the dealership lot.

It happens but not here. Both the outgoing and new guy in charge are very very heavy on this kind of thing, such a thing is made of it, what with dash cams and stuff and basically just common sense and courtesy! Don't do it!
