Fun Drive Ahead

on Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:43 pm
Well, in a couple of week we're off to a wedding near Richmond (Scotch Corner) - a distance of about 270 miles from her in Clevedon. The perfect run for the XF. We're going up after school, just the 2 of us.

There is one problem, however. Need to be there for 8pm; table booking. Leaving school at 3.15pm.

It will be interesting!!

You might just break the back of it before the traffic gets bad ...

Reminds me of Clarkson running the sun, West to East ...

Obviously don’t get yourself in any trouble - but get away, and get your toe down, and hopefully once you’re ahead of schedule you can relax before your meal.

Richmond is beautiful. The castle is a favourite of the kids.

Mmmmm. I'm sure the 503 horses in the XF (and the lovely noise) will not be slumming it too much! The XFR also takes up less space in the traffic jams!

Another vote up for Richmond.

Have a nice (and safe) drive.

I'd imagine the XFR will probably take a little while to get up to 70mph but once it's there, it'll sit reasonably well provided there isn't a headwind.. Maybe requiring a couple of downshifts to keep at 70 on motorway inclines, etc.

Crix, your post reminded me of a Mk5 Escort 1.4 hire car that my dad got once. His only comment was that it wouldn't pull up all the inclines on the A1/M1 in 5th gear.

I recall the time a few years back when I had the 3.2 Vectra and we were going on holiday. I totally misunderstood my wife so when I had fueled up at 03:01 and about to leave, she said "Will we be there for 05:30?"

Shocked Shocked Whaaaaaaaat??????

I thought it was 07:30!

No, that's the time the flight leaves...

OFFS Mad

So I put it to her, we go and she doesn't call me out for the speed or we go home and I get grief for the rest of my life????

She said one word...

"Drive!"

Lets just say Perth is 108 miles away and we arrived at 03:51 (well, technically we did 104 miles to the petrol station).

We stopped for fueling up and filling with coffee, then set off again to Prestwick Airport at 04: 03 and arrived at car park no3 at 05:46

Crix, I know you'll work out our average speed, but I have to tell you the road was remarkably clear. We passed two trucks and one car that whole way to Perth. The journey to Prestwick was a little more fraught and the last 5 miles or so had average speed cams. We also have them on A9 now so no more "spirited" driving Rolling Eyes

I would like to work out the average speed but i am confused as to where and what time i would be measuring.

All i require is:

setting off time:

distance travveled to break stop

Length of break.

distance travelled to destination

Time arrived at destination.

I can say I did nudge 150mph once or twice Shocked but the amount of fuel being burned and the general wallowing made it not great...

Thank you.

So, you travelled 304 miles in 154 minutes.

Stand by.

118.44mph average. Wowzers.

Even with the stop, you averaged 109.8mph!

I hope we can make some progress on my car this week, and I can drive it down to Poole on Friday night in confidence.

Not that it goes wrong after the first 5 minutes of any journey.

I bet if needs be, its an absolute mile muncher*

** and fuel muncher - I was expecting it to be thirsty, but heck, its a thirsty little bugger (worth it though)

Aye, that'll have a bearing.

What Andoo doesn't know about driving in snow, isn't worth knowing by someone who knows abour driving in snow, with reference specifically to snow driving - not driving in terms of 'driving snow' but in terms of driving in snow, as aforementioned when referring to driving in snow and snow driving - remembering that im not referring to 'driving' snow as aforementioned - but actually driving in sn*flatlines*

Crix, I think I misunderstood your questions!

The "total" miles from Inverness to Prestwick via Perth was 200 miles...

So Inverness to Perth petrol station 104 miles 03:01 to 03:51

12 minute stop

Carried on to Prestwick which was a further 96 miles 04:03 to 05:46
