What colour

on Tue Jun 12, 2018 8:52 pm
When I do the discs and pads on the BMW I was thinking about painting the calipers. So the burning question is what colour?
Black - Understated but dull.
Red - Match the rest of the car.
Blue, Yellow, Green - A bit different but might just look a bit naff.

Any thoughts?

Neighbours M6 has blue calipers which look good, but it’s a grey car

Yellow calipers can look good on red cars

Silver or black - painted calipers (unless factory) are a step too far for me on the boy racer scale.

Black will be the least attention grabbing and that does have some appeal. I wouldn't go Silver though.

He must love painted calipers .. the mere suggestion, and he has the robe out !!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that's the green light for you to paint them bright yellow - carbon-ceramic style.

It was very much a disapproving hmmm.

You may paint them in black, if you absolutely, absolutely must.

C’mon Crix the Crickasso would look awesome with painted calipers - next time you’re emptying the rubbish out and kicking the tyres all round

Paul, I appreciate your comment in jest!

Teeps, from the factory, mostly approve.

When done on older vehicles by the owner, mostly disapprove.
I mostly disapprove because 99/100 when this is done it simply screams 'this is a chavved up car'

If you can get it done in the 1/100 bracket, I will most certainly approve.

How does it look anymore chavved though?
The only reason why manufacturers are doing it now is because they are trying to muscle in on the modifying market. Same as why you can get Ford approved tuning packages including big exhausts etc.

Teeps I cannot believe that where you live and the general area you live/work in you do not see the horrendously hideous chavved up oldish bmws.
I know you would have more taste but can you not see what I mean? The line between tasteful mod and chavvy add-on is often quite fine.

Teeps, take my word on this.

They will be fine for a month or so,, then the interest in cleaning them every five minutes will wain....

Get some high temperature satin black and paint them to hide the rust.

Then every few months, spray a little bit to keep hiding the rust.

It's what I do with Georges chassis where you can see it through the rear arch. I also spray the mud flap bolts.

One tin will last all year Wink

I generally don't see many really chavved up cars at all these dasy. Nothing like I used too. Painting calipers also isn't really one of the things that I notice on the chavved cars I do see. Poorly fitted bodykits, Nasty alloys with cheap tyres and big exhuasts on Corsas but to be honest cars like that are few and far between. The majority of modified cars I see these days are VW/Audi that have been slammed with stretch tyres fitted and theyre not what I'd describe as chav. I've seen one modified BMW that looks awful but it must have cost the owner a small fortune. It's an E60 5 series with a wide arch body kits with massive alloys. Also see a few rat look cars with wheels at a silly angle and almost scraping the floor. Maybe it's where I live and work but I tend to see more youngsters in either flash cars like S3s, Golf Rs etc or in standard normal cars. The modified car scene isn't anything like it used to be round my way.

I don't do enough miles on dirty roads for my car to ever get that dirty. I doubt they will need cleaning that often.

Thinking blue at the moment.

I have to agree.

I know that blue calipers is very BMW .. but its a bit risky on this car.

Post up a picture of the car again ... but I am thinking Silver, Black, or maybe maybe red ...

I guess it depends on how you define risky.
If you mean that other peolle may not like it then I'm fine with that. After all other people spend 40k on cars that are painted primer grey. I think it looks awful but if they like it then it's their choice.
I'm not doing red or silver and I'm pretty sure I want a colour as opposed to black.

Watch this space...

Teeps you cannot but blue calipers on a red car man! (well, you can....and it has been done....but it's too potentially clashy)

Black, maybe, red, maybe..but it would tingle my chav senses. Grey, yes. A nice graphite grey?

If you do them blue or even worse, green (or yellow), i'll come down let your bike tyres down.
