Yep LK, still hold a candle (more like a furnace) for the R32.

In garage today for disc hubs repaint and callipers.

Didn’t go blue in the end .... nor red.

My fear all along was that painted callipers only work on nice big fat proper brakes ... and painting stock callipers red or blue only highlights how carp they are .... so went different route.

Ps. I think yours looks good Teeps, but only because it’s red against red ... and white callipers doesn’t work Laughing

Calipers look a lot better. I'd have changed the discs for coated ones rather than paint the old ones. They look a lot better though.
I actualy think the BMW brakes are pretty substantial so nothing wrong with drawing attention to them. They're certainly a lot bigger that many other cars.

Discs are fine - they’ve got the residue of whatever they did on them today - will soon wear off.

£10 each to paint the hubs, and they look like new.

Callipers look quite good in the flash - look a bit boring on the pics - it’s the texture that bothers me, and why I don’t want to bring attention to them .... they’re kinda mottled.

Anyway - all looking good and fresh ... can sell it now

Discs don’t look small in the flesh - having said that, they’re not as big as the ones my A3 had - if you ever see a 3.2 A3 - check out the size of the front discs !!!

No, the wheels are massive. My car has to run 17s to accomodate the 325mm discs. However if you put on 19s the discs would look small. That doesn't change the fact that they're bigger than the brakes on most other cars. Your car has brakes to cope with 500bhp. They will be massive.

Yep. Proper sleeper of a car, that one, LK.

I mean..to many...that could just be a 1.6 or a 1.9 tdi.

But we know better.

I know i always used to go on about how the A3 3.2 was the Golf R32 with all of the fun taken out....but now having matured....i totally get it.

I'd still prefer the R32 though Wink

Ah, epic car ... the stories I could tell you ... (or my brother could tell)

130mph running late for the Ferry blasts
Multi car over-takes ...

The good old days before so many speed camera’s.

I actually went out to buy an S3 - but same age, same miles, S3’s were £5000 more, and actually the more GT nature of the 3.2 really appealed to me .... ok it didn’t look much ... but that was actually part of the fun.

If you ask my Mrs which car was her favourite it was probably this one, she absolutely loved the fact you would never get beaten off the line (loads of roads down here are 2 lanes lights, in to 1) traction, power and the element of surprise ... and the noise - heck the noise Cool

With 17" wheels I very much doubt the car had 345mm discs. Take 1.5 off per side for the wheel thickness and another inch for caliper clearance and you get a max disc size of more like 330mm.
Euro car parts list two sizes for a 2006 3.2 A3. 312mm and 288mm.
I think you'd need at least 18s to squeeze 345 mm discs in.
