2018 Kia Ceed GT Line

on Mon Jul 16, 2018 6:51 pm
As my trusty connect is in for repair, i've had a couple of loan cars.........the Slowda (which we won't talk about) and the Ceed.

I picked it up last saturday morning for a working week in southern Ireland, at first glance i notice its a lil bit sporty looking, it has decent alloys, lovely pearlescent white paint, twin exhausts, 6 speed gearbox, nicely trimmed sports seats, a steering wheel with 15 million buttons on it etc etc.

So i press the start button and i'm greeted by a little KIA animation and cheesy tune from the LCD dials in front of me....cool!......then press the start button again to fire into action the meaty lump that it must have under the bonnet with all this sports clothing.

And there it goes, a little 3 cylinder trickle Laughing , but nevertheless it sounds fine. I leave the compound of the hire place and scoot off down the road.......the first thing i notice is this little thing has a good turn of pace for a 1 litre car, turns out its turbo assisted and delivers 118bhp - yay, cool!

I set off sunday afternoon and whizz up the M6 toward north Wales, 70 mph is around 2300rpm, pretty sweet for something with such a small engine. it's quiet, refined, smooth (if a little unsettled over the bumps, probably the large alloys), my phone is plugged in displaying apple carplay on the screen, the air con is belting out, the LCD screen is telling me everything i need to know.............yeah..........like this.

in the morning i load it on to Stena Superfast X and set off to Dublin and wait 3.5 hours for a boat to go 3.5 miles it seems *yawn*

i trundle off to my job, getting harassed by Dublins toll roads (pain in the arse) and into the city, where this thing excels.....the steering wheel has a button which can determine its weight, so i set it for 'comfort' and can now steer with my little finger, perfect for urban potato's-ville. Its really nippy around the streets, especially when i approach a traffic light which is flashing a yellow arrow to the left......i've no idea what that means, so i look and then punt it!.

this continues for tuesday and wednesday until thursday when i have the 170 mile trek to Cork in southern Ireland, which is basically one long dual carriageway with not a lot of traffic on it - again the ceed sups up the terrain.......but that's not the only thing it sups up.......I'd say i was sitting around 80mph most of the way (the speed limit is 75. before you say i was speeding  Razz ) and the OBC was showing 38mpg as my average over the journey - now......bearing in mind my 3.0 M235i will hit 30mpg if driven 'reasonably' sensibly, i thought this was a little disappointing, but then i guess this 998cc engine is designed for zippy city work and not high speed motorway churning stuff. but honestly......that's my only niggle

on Friday, i did around 400 miles to get back home from Cork to Dublin - boat - home and i can honestly say i felt quite relaxed on my return, more so than if i was in my connect (which itself is pretty refined for a van!)

Summary - I believe these are around 20k, i dunno if that's comparable to say, a focus, but i thought overall it was a damned good little car and a HELL of an improvement over the sort of stuff the Koreans were producing just 10-15 years ago.

recommend? absolutely

I cannot believe it's not shite.

It's Korean.
It's a 3 cylinder.
998cc ?? - who posts the exact cc except Crix.
The MPG is stated.

I don't believe it Spot who wrote that. Some other bloke wrote it. Probably a Korean.

Crix would, but then he's obsessed with MPG.
