Changing opinions

on Tue Jul 17, 2018 11:28 am
It's taken a while...but i now really, really like the current BMW 5 Series.

When it was lauched...i thoght...what a big, flabby, ugly, big snouted mess (yes i was looking in a mirror, haha!) But yeah.

Now i think it's a ruddy good looking car! Also an an estate, maybe more so!

Does anyone else have a car..that they really disliked when they first saw one....but now they have done a ....U turn....(hehe) and now like?

Pretty much all of Chris Bangle's BMW designs - really didn't think much to them at the time, but now they've had time to mature, I think they've aged quite well. I still prefer the pre-Bangle designs, though.

I agree. I do think they have aged well. I always liked the Z4 mind, right from the start. Cracking looking car.

Yep - most cars - but yes, definately the bangle cars, except the first gen 1 series, which still looks awful.

First gen ‘hatchback’ A class still looks awful too ....

Bangles designs haven't grown on me. The 3 series is about the only one thats ok.
Mk2 Skoda Superb. Didn't like it originally but think it looks good now.
The Mk4 Mondeo is the opposite. Thought it looked ok when it came out. Now it just looks bloated and bland.

S'funny isn't it? You see a car and think BLOOWAAARRRRR, spew, vomit, choke.... But some actually grow on you.

Then there is American designs which are pretty much truly woeful and uglier than that duckling parents sing about! Rolling Eyes

I do like a nicely turned estate car. George is an estate and pretty much of it's day. Parts of it look 90's and parts look up to date. But it will always be a 90's design.

Saw a Kia sporty looking thing in yellow the other day and I thought "Wow! Look at that!" It was amazing looking from behind and from side on too. I liked it.

But agree, something that has to grow in you will always seem to age well, whereas something you like immediately will go the same way as your wife. Love love love....What the? Borrrrred Laughing

The Kia was perhaps the new Stinger. I've yet to see one on the road but they do look striking.
Andoo, your RR is probs like...the most generally liked model. I reckon? It's very nicely proportioned in terms of styling and many remain fond of it.

That indeed is a truth. I'd never even considered a Range Rover until George happened. Now I see 38's everywhere.

If the Stinger is what it was, then it was a cracking looking thing, especially in yellow. Cool

I guess it was kind of Mondeo shaped, but squarer if that makes sense?!

All ok I think.

He's (constantly) having a lot work done at his house, so I think that is taking a lot of his time (and money)

He adores his Merc, so that's not going anywhere.

His Mondeo is still doing very nicely, so whilst he will change it, I don't know if he knows what for .. if he is feeling flush one day it could be a GLC, but I think he is contemplating a Mazda CX5 (??) and the Ford Kuga, as £20k is a lot easier to stomach than £35k for his Mrs to run around in.

I don't like the Kia Stinger. Doesn't look quite right in my opinion.

Another car I thought strikingly ugly at first was the Suzuki Ignis...

But now I think it's fcuking hideous! Just seems to be getting worse. I'm guessing they're phenomenally cheap or amazing to drive as there seem to be quite a few about?

I think they've got a bit of character. Overall i quite like them.

Agreed, see quite a few around here too.

Suzuki do small cars well. I see the new Swift a lot, also i've seen a yellow Sport version on the road which also looks good.

The new Jimny is on the way - has anyone seen that? It's getting almost 100% love on Pistonheads.

The Ignis has clearly been influenced by this -

I don't think it is too bad.
