Re: Off to Gaydon

You don't see many MG SV is that they only made a few before MG Rover tanked. 4.6 litre V8 IIRC.
Looked interesting but it was never going to work in my opinion. Focusing on a stupidly expensive halo model when they didn't have the brand cache to pull it off, almost no one would pay the kind of money MG wamted for them, not when similar cash would get you behind the wheel of a 911. The final folly of a failing marque.

Lights look like they're off a Punto.

Was it the slowest ever 4.6 V8 ever?!

The standard 4.6 makes about 260bhp but the one in the SV was tuned to make 320 bhp. The did a more powerful version as well, with a 5 litre engine that made 380 bhp.
It had Carbon fibre bodywork IIRC.

You could get the MG ZT with that engine briefly too. Extremely rare. I was working at the Rover dealer then and there was 1 demonstrator doing the rounds . All the sales guys were taking it out. The dealer was right next to the A1 and you could hear it from miles off, fabulous sounding engine.

Speaks volumes though that the Vauxhall was judged the better car.

Absolutely. Sadly I don't think we'll see the likes of those again.

No, Hence why values of the Monaro and the MG ZT V8 are relatively high for an old Vauxhall and Rover.
