Load lugging

on Wed Sep 19, 2018 11:37 am
Looking for a cheap vehicle to move stuff like a bathroom, fireplace, windows etc...

Ideally I’d like to avoid a van

LK what’s the load space in the Zafira like with all the seats out?

Xsara Picasso.

You cannot get a cheaper / bigger / car combo at the budget end of things. Seats out and the loadspace is huge.

Zafira would be a contender too.

I would be looking at sticking a tow hitch on a car you want to keep for a while. I forgot if you have trailer rental places in the UK. Certainly they have them here.

I think you can hire trailers Mogs but most of the places you’d pick stuff up from have crappy car parks or none at all

Going to look at a diesel Touareg at the weekend, it’s got high miles but not overly concerned.

The Zafira is very good ..... compared to the likes of a Quashqai, and even most 4wd’s, it’s a game changer.

I am sure someone will find the stats - but I reckon you can get more on the boot, than in the FIL Q7 ...

Alreet Crix I’ll look at a Picasso

Everywhere seems to quote figures for overall space in cubic feet etc but not actual width or length of load space with seats down / out??

MLs are getting quite cheap now if you need something a bit more square than an estate?

I can see the appeal of a cheap Touareg (although the cheaper they are, the more potentally big bills there could be) but if you simply desire something cheap to move stuff....a Xsara Picasso with the rear seats folded right forward or better still, taken out, is brill. However...you may need the seats in for your requirements, i dunno. The boot is still huge but yeah. 2.0 diesel is solid. (no DMF/DPF etc)

Something like a Mk2 Mondeo estate is also huge. A petrol is the safe option on a cheap Mondy. Diesels go well but can have costly issues. Longer load area than XPic BUT the XPic has more height and equal width.

Then of course, you may be repulsed by a Xsara Picasso, which is fair enough....but for a cheap load lugging thing....tremendous.

Not too fussed about it being desirable to be honest so the Picasso shape may work.

The only reason for ruling out vans is the ability to carry people when required... So being able to put down or take out seats is necessary

Cool. Negative mark against the XPic vs the Zafira is...the XPiC seats have to come out. Whereas the ZafZaf seats fold and slide forward in a more clever way..but ulitmately i'd guess that the XPic has the overall bigger load area with it's seats fully out?

I had an 8ft length in my old XPic before, it went right from the back of the boot to the dashboard (folded down passenger seat) but it did fit. And yes, i know what you are thinking, being 8ft, it was my semi-erect penis.

I suspect there is a small hole between the houses that you can't see.

Every hole is a goal though ..

My E320 could hold a shed load more equipment than the RR can. I could fold the rear seats and load a full size double mattress in there and two people sleep on it. We never did sleep (caravan see), but it was that big & wide.

Beast of a car and it could tow over two tonnes Cool

In fact, I've just bought this...

Well, the deal isn't quite done yet - I haven't seen the car, handed over any money or expressed any interest in it whatsoever, but apart from that, it's mine!! Smile
