Probably MX-5, Clio and Civic. Caterham perhaps, but not much of an all rounder, and others like the Octavia and Leon are good value for money performance cars, but not as driver orientated.

I'm trying to work out what the black and silver ones at the back oneach side of the Mini are. Merc A Class and/or C class coupe?

Is that a Saxo and Xsara at the back? Proton Satria, MG ZR, Ibiza, Yaris, Lupo, 106, Focus (ST170? Good, but won't be rated higher than the Civic perhaps).

I'll snap the top 5. Stand by.

The cars were tested by Tiff Needell, BTCC Driver Phil Bennett and Autocar Staff: Chris Chilton, Chris Harris, Chas Hallett, Simon Hucknall and Steve Fowler (who would later become What Car? Editor)

Positions 25-6 are:

25: Smart Brabus Cabrio

24: Diahatsu Sirion Rallye 4

23: MG ZR 160 (Spot, didn't you have one of these?)

22: Toyota Yaris T Sport

21: Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi Sport

20: Alfa Romeo 147 2.0

19: Skoda Octavia vRS

18: Proton Satria GTi

17: Seat Leon Cupra 20v

16: Smart Roadster

15: Ford StreetKa

14: Citroen Xsara VTS

13: VW Lupo GTi

12: Ford Mondeo 2.0 Zetec

11: Vauxhall Astra GSi

10: Ford Focus ST170

9: Peugeot 206 GTi 180

8: MINI Cooper S (ooooooffffffff!)

7: Toyota Celica 1.8

6: Caterham 1.4 Classic

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Would have expected the Leon Cupra to be faster than that, they were pretty light from what I can remember

Didn't think an Octavia vRS would be slower than 2.0 Mondeos and 147s!!

Spot.....howay man. The Clio in particular has almost legendary status when 'drivers cars' are talked about! As do many Renaultsport products. Civic R a great car though, agreed!

Spot.....are you just deliberately making me bite?

Clio 172/182....the clue is in the name.....the next down model would have like....115bhp or something.

The Clio 182 was good in the way the Williams Clio was in the sane way the Renault 5 turbo was (although the first two obviously weren’t as good as the turbo)
