Phone Data Issue!!!

on Sat Oct 13, 2018 11:31 am
Hi chaps, please read carefully & thoroughly. I will state that "I" have not "used" any data while outside...mostly because I only went out on the bike on Wednesday evening so the phone was locked in my pocket as in I wasn't roaming or streaming.

Anyway, if you can help, please read:

PHONE ISSUE! Anyone having a problem with either Vodafone or the Samsung Galaxy S7 using data like it's free???

Noticed I was low on my data on Tuesday! Used 8GB which is bizarre as my usual monthly use is 2GB average.

Called, got 1GB of data for 2 quid...except I didn't! It never happened. I had 200Mg left which went by Wed & phone advised me, then Voda txt saying it was gone!

Went onto computer "chat" (Vodafone), got the 1GB "again" (this is the 1GB that I never got on Tuesday), however, again not a peep!

I called Friday 10am to say "where is this 1GB of data?" They apparently found the cause it hadn't applied and I got it. Yayy!!

I later (around 2pm) switched off the Mobile Data on my phone so it couldn't mysteriously disappear.... Except at 01:15 (Saturday 13th morning) I receive a txt to say I had once again used all my mobile data!!!!!!!!!

WTF??

I have been connected to our WiFi since the back of 2pm Friday, I haven't been out of the house, but yet my "mobile data" has disappeared once again, even though I switched off mobile data and have been connected to the house WiFi since 2pm.

I have no idea "where" my data is going, but as far as I'm aware "I" am not (100% certain) using it!

Anyone experienced this before? Could the phone have a virus or some filthy c*#t on Facebook cloned my phone or some such??

I am going to the Voda shop today, but just wonder if anyone else has had this problem of data vanishing into thin air??

Thanks all.

I don’t the settings on Android but in general the things I’d be looking at would be

Resetting the data used metrics and monitor what app / service shows usage
Check whether the phone is allowing fallback to 4G/3G when WiFi fails / response not quick enough
Check if mobile hotspot is enabled and what’s connecting to it
Check what Bluetooth stuff is connecting and what it’s using

It’s possible to clone a SIM card, much easier if you have the physical sim...

Ask for confirmation of what transactions have happened on your Vodafone account. It’s not impossible for me to phone up and pretend to be you, order a sim and begin using it at your cost.

Do Vodafone allow you to share data between phones - could it be linked to another one in the family?

Ask me about injector pulse width and duration or ignition timing retardation and I'm with you, but what you said might as well be in Klingon Embarassed

The only app that ever used data was Spotify, but I always disable it when not using it. Last time I used it was weeks ago.

Last time I used mobile hotspot was in Lithuania. We were way way in the deepest countryside (where I sent Crix a video of me & the missus Shocked Laughing ). I needed to get into the laptop to get onto a forum so I plugged the phone into the laptop via the charge cable USB and tethered it. But that was it. Two days, probably 2hrs total usage. That was at the start of August. This is recent!

Bluetooth is always on, but it connects to either my helmet system when on the bike or two different car systems, one is the SONY in George and the other is an older Nokia CK7W BT in the Suzuki Alto. On saying that, I was in the bath yesterday and bluetoothed to a speaker so I could watch the movie San Andreas...

The rest of your suggestions I have no idea what's going on!

There’s screenshots of checking whether apps update over WiFi only etc on fbis link (plus some about detecting which apps are using data)

Need to check your running systems ... probably left some porn running in the background ....

Turn the volume up, and if he hear moaning in the background, you’ve left a Milf banging away in the background.

Funny enough, I was watching some dark haired bird in Kingston Upon Thames giving it large with some battery operated buzzing thing while her house selling husband was out gallavanting Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

No, this:Well, as it happens the guy in the shop discovered my mobile data usage went mad on and after the 14 September.

That is the start of my new billing month... If I was a conspiracy theorist, I would think something is afoot!! Imagine Voda see I use my mobile data very little, but at home my Vodafone phone is constantly streaming from my Vodafone fibre broadband router.

What if they planted a bit of software (malware) to their router so that even when I was "connected" I actually wasn't so I was using my mobile data instead?? The guy at the shop showed me the date my usage spiked.

Now I'm thinking that they wouldn't do such a thing, would they?

It's just an incredible coincidence that it all started at the beginning of the new billing month...

He could see my normal usage, he could see things were switched off, but also, my STV & BBC iPlayer along with Facebook apps had been unrestricted right then too. I told him the truth, I have no idea "how" to do that! Seems a bit effing creepy how it all started on the 14th September Shocked Mad

I should add, Voda applied 1GB of data at around 10:30am Friday and I switched off mobile data at 14:00 Friday. I "know" I was connected to the router as the speed of the connections were astounding. AND... I was there when I switched it on so I "know" it was on and mobile data was "OFF"

Anyway, 01:15 Saturday morning I get a txt from Voda telling me I had run out of mobile data!! HOW? It was OFF. I switched it off.

So, to reiterate, HOW can I have used 1GB of my mobile data when it was OFF and I was connected to the WiFI???????
