Recent motoring - is hugh121 maturing?!

on Thu Oct 25, 2018 9:59 pm
A mixed few weeks of motoring of late.

The Roadster had the oil leak fixed - the head was reskimmed and looked fabulous. The local specialist put it all back together, insisting he ran it in for a couple of days. During this time he found another oil leak! When tensioned up / re-bolted, it seems there is a slight crack on the chain cover which we both missed. So next Friday he's stripping it all back, taking head off again and replacing the chain cover. Very frustrating as I have half term next week and was hoping to do a little tour.....

Anyway, it seems rather "fizzy" and almost certainly has had a remap at some point. As we don't know who did it I may remove it for safety reasons - the turbo is boosting to about 1.5bar.....

As for the Jaguar - I'm trying to decide whether to keep the Spires exhaust or not.... can't decide if the XF should be quieter. Noise suits the F Type, but is it rather "low rent" for a Jaguar Saloon to make?!

Hard to say without seeing (hearing) it.

Been out with the family today - an hour each way of amazing Surrey Hills roads in the A3 (to a National Trust place and Pizza Express)

Anyway - other than the clutch which could well be on its last legs - what an amazing car (for the money).

Unlike most new cars, it rides properly ... the Diesel engine seems to use no fuel, and is proper punchy, and amazing quiet (once moving).

Parked up whilst having dinner - no stress or concerns about leaving it in a car park, whilst actually it looks pretty good, and still gives that Audi feel good factor.

I’m sure it won’t be mine for too long - but Porsche Macan (or Audi SQ5) were my dream cars today .... and I’ll need to work out where I go next - but 100% it’ll have to ride properly, be refined, and reliable .... which counts BMW out on three counts !!!

The Mrs wants to do (and I will not be arguing) an Italian road trip next year ... so we (I) need a better car for that trip.

However, we're going to Florida (and Disney) for Christmas and New Year, and I'm quite close to hitting the button on a loft conversion on the house, so buying a new car would be squeaky bum time at this very second.

'Kin 'ell LK!

First World problems!

Cant press the button on a new(er) car cos we're going to Florida for Christmas and getting the loft converted!?!

'Kin 'ell! I've just transferred £18.02 into my 'savings' account (which now has £18.02 in it)

I'm just jealous though. Well done on your success and enjoy, whichever you choose Smile

A few weeks ago I did get to see a Smart Roadster up in a high car park. So he or she was enjoying a drive. I don't see many though.. so I wonder about their durability.

New car for Italy I really wouldn't bother with it. A more or less battered looking car would fit in far better. The last time I was there I slowed then slowed then missed my turnoff on the auto strada so reversed back at 4am in the morning. So watch out for really big fools over there who haven't had much sleep...

Now I have to put my winter wheels back on. It's getting to that time, actually a bit passed. I have the better jack, 2 wrench's and even a trolley to carry all and do it myself.

K'in 'ell Crix, you have more than eighteen quid? Shocked

*not normally jealous, but am jealous* Embarassed

That thing in the photo is awful!!

It's missing a quarter window, which in my humble, would make it look at least less like a squashed van and more like a queer looking car, but a car non the less... Rolling Eyes

Well, hoping to collect the Roadster on Friday afternoon. Just in time for going back to work next Monday!!!

The XFR is in for a service this week, so going to put the original exhaust back on for the winter. Can then decide which I prefer. The noise is lovely but, as it's a saloon, I wonder if it should sound like it's trying?!?

I did a delete on George. Makes for a richer slightly deeper bass sound...which is what a V8 should sound like 😎

Something like.....BRRROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAABLE.

Is it now more of a 'Broable' rather than a burble?

Or would you class it as a warble now changed to a broable? Or is warble incorrect?

V8s do a tend to have a 'woofle' dont they.

So look - is the RR (or was it before) a burble, warble, or a woofle?

None of those, it's a B'drrrup.

Hard acceleration is brrrUUUUUUPDbd.

But it'll all change when I fit the new coil 🤔😎

Oh dear!

The jokes are my department dear boy 🤔

We all know the only springs on a Range Rover are inside the engine 😉

As you know, but some on here may not, George is currently running on 7 out of the 8 she has because of this little bit of fuckery...

The right bank is fine, firing on all cylinders

The left bank not so much

Oh dear! I dont want to get too 'simplified' for the benefit of the less technical members of the forum - but i'd reckon there should be more christmas lights illuminated on the last pic!

P.S. - thank you for your description of the sound, it's good.

Ha ha, thanks Crix 😁

The last pic was zoomed in to show the plug on the left bank nearest the bulkhead is barely a flicker while the one next to it is mint 🔥

Those are things you pop onto the top of the spark plug then attach the plug cap to see if the coils are firing.
