Bargain barge

on Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:32 am
I want another bargain barge. I can't get one at the moment but i WILL sometime!

Post your absolute bargain barge finds here!

There are gonna be cars now and soon that just fall out of the market. Big engined gas guzzlers...that our out of favour. The trick is acquiring one JUST at the right moment....when theey are disregarded...but before they get rare....and become a collectors item and start to appreciate again.

The Lexus LS400 etc has already gone into that second phase, it's started to apprecate.

For the sake of a few hundred quid, I'd love something like this... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201810051222438?onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&make=MERCEDES-BENZ&radius=1500&postcode=wf15dr&advertising-location=at_cars&model=S%20CLASS&sort=price-asc&page=1

Or, for a couple of grand, something a bit different... https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1031565

Getting more expensive, but I've always loved the 'mean' look these have, and there can't be many, if any, left in this condition... https://www.burkinshawcars.co.uk/cars/vauxhall/senator/30.ltrautosaloon/220859/

I've had a nosey recently at Peugeot 605s and Citroen XMs - the 605s are very rare now, though, and decent XMs seem to be holding their value more lately (albeit still "cheap").

Bargain barges have to be my favourite type of car! Cool

Absolutely! The 'amount of car for your money' type of thing. You have to balance it with the factors that....if even one biggish thing fails....it could render the car unfixable..kinda thing.

But if you've got a mainly working barge....happy days....

On your links...first one..yep. This and particularly the next model sometimes appear crazily cheap. Bargain bargement....but....so complex....so much to go wrong...but thats all part of the bargain barge riskment.

Second one.im not a fan Sad But nevertheless, its a barge....and cheapish.....but yeah. In fact...and i dont often say this as i have time for all cars....i think that looks quite, quite nasty!

Third one...ja...already well into the next phase price wise. For me, it's a no way. It's too expensive for what it is (not saying it isn't worth it though...but...yeah. Too appreciaty)

Im thinking.....

All offer such value!!

The 7-series are tempting.. as are old A8s.

Maybe we're best off with older/cheaper cars - designed by engineers and built by humans, rather than accountants and CAD.

I see no reason to spend more than a grand on a car that's going to be used as a daily driver, so it might as well be something interesting. Smile

Ok, I really need to stop looking now, but found this beast!! Still a very sophisticated, tasteful car, and 1 of only 5 left if the ad's anything to go by... https://www.exchangeandmart.co.uk/used-cars-for-sale/saab/9000/saab-9000-cdi-s-2.0i-auto-saloon-22247221

I dont think i've ever seen one of those Hyundai Grandeurs, import? Excellent 'what is it' value.

And the old Saabs, excellent.

Good finds.

I believe the Grandeur was officially sold in the UK, although I expect not for long with the (as to be expected) poor sales figures.

Knew a couple of friends of friends with those newer cheap 7 series. Both picked up cheap ones with mega miles at auctions, I believe they added mega miles on them themselves then threw them away
