2016 Maserati Ghibli 3.0 V6d

on Thu Dec 06, 2018 9:30 pm
Today I had the pleasure of moving this beast from the dealership next to where I work, to the dealership I actually work at (delivered next door in error). Not a very long journey, but I still got to drive it nevertheless!

It’s the base model, which is just over £50k new, and has 19,000 miles on the clock. We’ve recently started taking part-exchanges from prestige dealerships within group to sell from our stock.

First impressions - big beast of a car! Looks really nice but also very imposing. The pillarless doors also look great. Inside, all black, but nice leather, decent switchgear and all the toys you’d expect, although not much more. The back is also very cramped for the size of the car, and one of the air vents in the back came off in my hand! Overall, it doesn’t feel flimsy, but you wouldn’t call it solid either. The boot’s a decent size and there’s also a thing you can pull to open the boot from the inside.

Now, with around 286bhp on tap, this car shouldn’t be a slouch! However... here’s where we have a problem. This car is stuck in limp home mode and won’t rev past 3000rpm. If we can’t fix it cheaply, the car will be rejected. In the morning I’ll be reminding management that it’s still under manufacturer’s warranty so they should fix it!

Overall, in my very brief encounter with the car, it’s a lovely car and a very nice place to be - the main reasons for buying one though would be exclusivity/rarity value and the fact that new it’s about £20k cheaper than the cheapest new Audi A8 or Range Rover, although it’s perhaps aiming more towards the 5-series end of the market, rather than the true luxury sector.

Assuming we can get it out of limp home mode, it should be up for sale by next week if anybody fancies it!!

Too lazy to lookup, what engines are in these?

The old 4200 used to sound epic

It ticks my "rarity" box, but is a couple of hundred BHP shy.

3.0 TDi in limp mode ... that's not a good sign.

P.S - it's a shame about the limp mode in terms of driving the car - would this have been the fastest diesel you'd driven?

The most powerful diesel i've driven would be the 313PS / 553lbft (OMG) Touareg V10 5.0 BUT they weigh approx 2.7 tonnes!

The fastest/quickest diesel was certainly the 3.0 D S in the XF (275PS / 443lb ft) - tremendously fast....but steathily done....no real awareness of the speed...until one looks at the needle going around the clock like something very fast!

This is the most powerful diesel I've driven, although I drove a 2005 BMW 535d once which was only slightly behind this in power - the auto 'box seemed to sap power from that, though.

There's a 3.0 V6 twin-turbo Ferrari petrol engine option with either 350bhp or 430bhp available. Now we're talking!!

It's done 73,000 miles and has 2 former keepers, the present one's had it since 2011.

Once it's been processed I'll let you know the price. Smile

Oh - ok - that could be interesting.

High miles, but if well looked after ????? could be a good buy - I suspect you'll just throw it to auction.

What engine is it ?

FF - what do you do exactly ?? ... do you get the chance to offer any cheap part-ex's out ??

It's the 4.8 V8 4S PDK (that probably means more to you than it does to me, lol).

The car in front is a 10-plate Cayman if that floats your boat instead? Smile

I'm a Sales Administrator - basically wiping the arse of the sales department and accounts department. Unfortunately, the days of being able to buy P/Xs cheap seem to have disappeared across the whole industry. Although, if my car happened to blow up and I needed something cheap quickly, they'd probably let me buy something that'd come in, but only as a one-off sort of thing. We are allowed to buy one retail car every 12 months that qualifies for a money off voucher, though.

The Maserati is being returned to the dealer that sent it to us and will be going to auction. Despite being under manufacturer's warranty, management don't want it off sale for the time it'll take to get the engine sorted. Sad Shame, it does feel quite special.

The Maserati was sold to us for £22600, book price is apparently £25500... I offered them an 03-plate Vectra which ISN'T in limp mode for a direct swap, but they declined. Sad Oh well, their loss... Laughing
